Truly, Truly, I Say to You is an encouraging, Christ-centered Lenten devotional by pastor and author Adam Ramsey. I was excited when I came across this book because the title is derived from the book of John, one of my favorite books. Each day’s devotion references a few Bible verses for readers to look up. While many devotionals include the text of Scripture, I appreciated that his one had me opening my Bible.
The content for each day was really encouraging and consistently reminded me of God’s love for me in Christ. Adam is an excellent teacher who uses widely relatable analogies to help readers understand the truths of Scripture.
There were many quotes I highlighted while reading and one of my favorites is, “. . . the loving leadership of Jesus in this life will include both green pastures that restore us and dark valleys that trouble us (Psalm 23:2-4). But neither the absence of the former nor the presence of the latter means that he has abandoned us (v 5). And that is enough. For the command of Jesus to follow him is infused with his promise, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’ (Hebrews 13:5),” (pg. 23).
Each day’s content ends with a quote from Charles Spurgeon making this devotional abundant in encouragement. While this book intends to help readers fix their eyes on Jesus during the Lenten season, I believe it is an incredibly helpful resource for other times of the year too.
Overall, I really enjoyed Truly, Truly and I’m looking forward to reading Adam’s new title Faithfully Present which releases later this year.
I received Truly, Truly, I Say to You compliments of The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.
