The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. Psalm 16:6

Faith

As a Christian, my faith impacts everything I do. I love to share how God is working in my life to conform me to the image of Christ. I consider this blog a living autobiography for God’s glory. Sharing how God is at work in me brings me joy and I hope it inspires others too. I hope that by reading posts about my faith, others will get a glimpse of who God is and that it will compel them to want to know Him more. My hope for this blog is that those who know Jesus will become more like Him as a result of my posts and that those who don’t know Him will turn from their sin and trust in Him alone for salvation.

Occasionally, I’ll come across Bibles and helpful resources like this Church Leadership Toolkit from @9marks! I was so excited to receive this and look forward to taking full advantage of all it has to offer! The videos look so helpful and I can’t wait to learn from them!

🎧 Here are 3 audiobooks I’m currently reading 🎧 Here are 3 audiobooks I’m currently reading:

1. The Gospel by rayortlund - We’re hosting a summer book club for our youth group students and decided to go through this book with them. We found a free study guide online that another church created so we were able to adapt our discussion questions from that! We also found a link to this book free in ebook format and our library offers it free on Hoopla as an ebook and audiobook! For so many reasons, this book is the perfect pick for our students and we can’t wait to read it with them!

2. Bully Pulpit by Michael Kruger - I’ve read this book before and wanted to read it again and found that listening was the most accessible way to consume it this time around. I borrowed the audiobook free on Hoopla and it’s just as good the second time around. I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to make sense of spiritual abuse in evangelical churches and/or those hoping to make their church safe from spiritual abuse.

 3. The Great Sex Rescue by Sheila Wray Gregoire - I’ve been listening to this book free via Audible. Many people I know have found this book to be incredibly helpful and I’ve found it to be too. It addresses some damaging messages that Christians, especially women, have received about what sex in marriage should entail. I like how ideas and common teachings about sex are examined in light of Scripture and how spouses are called to live out the gospel in this and every area of their marriages. I think this is a healing read for anyone who’s experienced hurt from purity culture and/or anyone who’s considering what it could look like to glorify God in this area. I have a hard time with the author’s social media posts and podcast episodes because they don’t seem to hold out gospel hope for others and seem to be hyper focused on what certain books/authors have been wrong about. I do think there can be a place for that but I would also love to see conversations/posts move toward the hope of the gospel. Thankfully, those things aren’t present in the book so far and while some of the anecdotes in it are very sad, I think this book is a much needed resource for Christians.
📚 We visited one of our local Goodwill stores o 📚 We visited one of our local Goodwill stores over the weekend and I was so thrilled to find these books there! My 9 year old was so excited about the American Girl Tiny Treasures book and I had to buy it for her because I loved it so much when I was her age! I was so excited about the Christian books we found too! We will occasionally thrift Christian books even if we own them so we can give them away. For our Life Group’s White Elephant Christmas gift exchange, we brought a bag of thrifted Christian books and it was the first gift that was “stolen” 😂 and we can’t wait to gift more thrifted books this year!

👂🏼 “God’s heart of compassion is why Jes 👂🏼 “God’s heart of compassion is why Jesus came to earth. At the beginning of Luke’s Gospel, John the Baptist’s father, Zechariah, gives a prophecy. In this prophecy, he explains much about the incarnation of Jesus that is about to occur. At the end, he gives God’s motivation for Jesus’s coming.

Luke writes, ‘Because of our God’s merciful compassion, the dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.’ (Luke 1:78-79)

Long before Zechariah, the prophet Isaiah also tells of the compassionate heart of the coming Messiah. He will come with a heart of compassion that brings good news to the poor, heals the brokenhearted, and liberates the captives (Isaiah 61:1-3). Jesus embodies this compassion as he travels through Galilee and Judea on his way to the cross. Along the way, he heals illness, casts out demons, makes the lame walk, and restores sight to the blind. Compassion was the foundation for Jesus’s motivation and mission.”

📖 I really enjoyed @joehussung’s Learning to Listen and am so hopeful for what our churches and care ministries will look like as more people read this book and become better listeners as a result!
