If you’re hesitant to spend money on items that will go straight into the trash, you might enjoy this affordable, minimalist gift wrap. When it comes to Christmas gift giving, one of the things I’m most hesitant to spend money on is wrapping and all the accessories included with it. From tape to ribbon to bows, these little but necessary elements can add up quickly. If you’re like me, you’d love the option of beautiful wrapping at a fraction of the cost so you can give more to the ones you love. Does anyone else struggle with the idea of spending lots of time and money on something that is ultimately going to be trashed? I’ve found that the best solution to this problem, naturally, can be found at your local Dollar Tree store and only costs between $2 and $4 depending on what items you already have at home. I love that Dollar Tree offers a wide range of Christmas wrapping paper options but to gain even more bang for my buck, I walk right past them to the aisle that contains the shipping/office supplies. My go-to for wrapping paper is a simple roll of brown kraft paper – here are a few of the reasons why:
- It’s sturdy – this type of paper is thicker than traditional wrapping paper and doesn’t tear as easily which is great for gifts that are fragile
- It contains more paper than a roll of wrapping paper
- It can be easily customized
One of my favorite ways to add a little something extra to the kraft paper is by wrapping my gifts with the red and white baker’s twine which can be found on the craft aisle. If you’re looking for more a more traditional style of twine, you can find a three pack containing natural colored and green jute twine in the automotive section. To take this idea even further, last year I decided to wrap some books in the kraft paper and twine and use them as decor.
This affordable minimalist gift wrap is super simple! In order to get started wrapping, you will need the following 4 supplies, all of which can be purchased at Dollar Tree:
Once you have your items, begin wrapping! Yes, it really is that simple. If you desire to give your wrapping a custom look you may want to consider the following ideas:
- Add a fresh sprig of eucalyptus, rosemary, or even pine
- Use a gold, silver, or white Sharpie to create a fun pattern on your paper
- Handletter a custom message
- Have your kids color the paper
- Add a little family photo under the bow
- Attach an ornament with the twine
- Replace traditional clear tape with Washi style tape
The ideas are many, it’s really up to you to decide how far you want to take it. Rather than spending unnecessary amounts on wrapping paper and accessories, why not give more to the ones you love? I’m thankful for the many options at Dollar Tree that have allowed me to do just that!
