In the Lord I Take Refuge is the newest devotional by pastor and author Dane Ortlund. I’m generally not a huge fan of devotionals as they seem to be used in place of reading and studying the Bible. This devotional, however, is quite the exception. The content for each day includes a Psalm and a brief commentary by Ortlund on how that Psalm points to Jesus. The Psalms have become dear to me this year as I’ve walked through difficult circumstances. While I’ve grown in familiarity with the Psalms, I still have so much to learn and this resource has been very helpful in deepening my knowledge. In The Lord I Take Refuge has helped me make connections that I hadn’t made before as Ortlund helps readers understand how each Psalm fits into the larger scope of the whole Bible.
Ortlund’s devotionals are brief yet deeply encouraging. I’ve wanted to cry tears of joy and gratitude upon reading many of them and the way he speaks about Christ really stirs my affections for Him. This devotional ought to be read by every Christian at some point. It is especially helpful for those who want to cultivate a habit of Bible reading but perhaps aren’t sure where to begin. It’s great for those who are in busy seasons and may not have as much time to dedicate to Bible reading and study as they would like. The cover design for the book is stunning making In The Lord I Take Refuge the full package when it comes to devotionals. If you are looking for a simple yet powerful way to stir your affections for Christ, I highly recommend purchasing a copy of the book. If you are more of an auditory learner, Crossway has generously made the book’s content available for free in podcast format. My husband and I have been very blessed by listening to the episodes together.
I received In the Lord I Take Refuge compliments of Crossway in exchange for my honest review.
