I enjoy finding books that introduce my children to deep theological truths in an age appropriate way. So I was excited when I received the opportunity to review I Belong: Heidelberg Catechism Question and Answer One for Children by Joyce Holstege. I Belong draws on the Lord’s Day 1 section of the Heidelberg Catechism and is essentially a devotional for parents to read with their children. I appreciate that while each page contains devotional content, the book flows together really well and is composed of beautiful illustrations.
Each devotion is full of gospel truth that is written in simplified terms making it easy for young readers to understand. Although this is a children’s book, I was encouraged by it and am thankful for how theologically rich it is. The message of the gospel is clearly articulated multiple times throughout the book and rather than only sharing the gospel, the book articulates what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus. I’m really grateful to own this book and know it is one I will use with my children often. If you are a parent looking for a resource to help you teach your child(ren) timeless biblical truths in a manner that is encouraging and understandable, I highly recommend I Belong.
I received I Belong compliments of Reformed Free Publishing Association in exchange for my honest review.
