How Much Is a Little Girl Worth? is the children’s book by author, mom, and sexual abuse survivor Rachael Denhollander. This book is so well done and is a lovely companion to Rachael’s memoir, What Is a Girl Worth? Rachael Denhollander was the first to publicly speak up about how she was sexually abused by former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. The title of the book is derived from part of the impact statement Rachael delivered upon Larry’s sentencing. She concluded that little girls are worth everything including the full protection of the law.
How Much Is a Little Girl Worth? is Rachael’s way of communicating to young girls that they have value unsurpassable because they were created in God’s image. Some parents may be concerned about how the book tackles a tough topic like sexual abuse as it is difficult to explain to little ones. This book doesn’t mention that as its emphasis is helping little girls understand that they are valuable because they bear the stamp of the Creator.
I read this book to my three year old and she loved it. The book is essentially a poem adorned with beautiful illustrations. As a mom of two girls, I’m so thankful for this heartwarming resource because it so thoughtfully communicates to my daughters who God made them to be.
I really enjoyed How Much Is a Little Girl Worth? and am pleased to give it my highest recommendation.
