Half Price Books Book Haul

One of my favorite bookstagrammers, Lia Ross of @liarossreads, often shares the amazing deals she finds at her local used bookstore. I enjoy thrifting and books so heading into my local Half Price Books store, I felt pretty excited. On the day that I went, I happened to have all of my kids with me so I knew it would be a challenge but decided to go anyway. The store sells other used media items including records and I was hoping to find one my kids would enjoy.

We weren’t successful in finding a record but I did find a small stack of Christian books on clearance! Although the deals weren’t as excellent as the ones Lia finds, I was thankful to walk away with the books I found for a fraction of their original cost. Here’s what I purchased from Half Price Books and what I paid:

A Praying Life by Paul E. Miller – $3

I’ve only heard wonderful things about Paul E. Miller’s A Praying Life. This title is mentioned in the intro to JD Greear’s Just Ask and I have a friend who recently read it and highly recommends it! This book is currently $14.73 brand new from Amazon so it was certainly a steal!

The Pastor’s Justification by Jared C. Wilson – $3

What stands out to me about Jared C. Wilson is how gentle and gracious he is when it comes to applying theology. While I have no intention to become a pastor, I’m hoping to read this and glean insights about keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus while in church leadership. I’m sure my husband will enjoy this one too at some point! This book is $15.59 on Amazon so finding it for about one fifth of the cost was quite a bargain!

Unsuper Mommy by Maggie Combs – $2

I have yet to read anything by Maggie Combs but I’ve enjoyed her posts on Instagram. The title of this book caught my attention as it sounds like a moniker I would give myself. I also own her newer title, Motherhood Without All the Rules and I look forward to reading both books at some point! This title retails for $14.39 on Amazon so I’m excited to have found it for only $2!

Why Trust the Bible? Study Guide by Greg Gilbert – $2

I didn’t realize this book was only a study guide until after I purchased it (I guess that’s what happens when you try to shop with three kids by yourself!) but I have no regrets. At only $2, it was still a major discount. Our church gives out What is the Gospel? by the same author so I can see us purchasing Why Trust the Bible? at some point and going through the study guide with our life group. The study guide sells for $7.99 on Amazon so I was glad to find it for about a quarter of the cost!
