Grieve, Create, Believe is the debut title by blogger and author, Rachel George. Rachel wrote this book after the loss of her two precious babies, Clive and Winnie. The book was created to help parents process the loss of their children too, although it can be helpful for processing grief in general. I’ve never experienced child loss but I was still grateful to read Rachel’s story and learn from her example of pursuing Christ even in the midst of tragedy.
She writes in a way that is wise, honest, and hope filled. This book is unique when it comes to books on processing loss because it provides readers with a way to tangibly express their grief. The chapters conclude with a Creative Response section with project prompts that are cathartic and point to God’s character. I like that many of the Creative Response projects will allow readers to create a meaningful memento of their loved one(s).
I’m not usually a huge fan of self published books because they seem to lack the quality of books produced by traditional publishers. However, Rachel’s book is the exception. One of my favorite aspects of the book is the Scripture artwork featured on some of the pages.
I really wanted to tear out some of the pages and use them as artwork around my home but the book lover in me simply couldn’t do it. The hymn pages were beautifully done and I was very tempted to use those as artwork as well. It is clear that Rachel put forth a tremendous amount of time and effort into the content of her book as well as the design, and she did an excellent job.
I love how through her story she comforts others with the comfort she’s received in Christ. Her story takes brokenness and turns it into something beautiful and I know many have already been encouraged by it. I really enjoyed Grieve, Create, Believe and am pleased to give it my highest recommendation.
