My girls were so excited to decorate for Christmas this year which increased my excitement to do so! One of our decorations that is also an Advent resource is a set of Bible verse cards that I printed out years ago. I wanted to include the cards in the Freesources section of my Monthly Memo email but when I found their original location online, they were no longer available for download. I initially had trouble locating ours this year so I decided to make my own.
These Advent Cards begin with Genesis 3:15, a verse known as the first gospel, in which God promised to send Jesus, and the cards culminate in His final return in Revelation 21:3. Advent is derived from a word that means longing and it has often been used to refer to both the first and second comings of Jesus. The set includes 25 cards each containing a verse with a prophecy about the coming Messiah or details about His birth. The cards can be used to help young children learn about the birth of Jesus as they count down the days until Christmas. While I anticipate that families with young children may enjoy these cards, I hope they will also be a helpful tool for adults to use in memorizing Scripture.
I purchased a wood bead garland hoping to pin our Advent cards to it with mini clothespins however, there wasn’t enough room between the beads for the pins. Instead, I layered twine under the garland and pinned the cards to that and it worked well. The Advent cards can also stand alone in a card stand. However you decide to use them, I hope the Advent cards bless you as you consider why Jesus came and encourage you to expectantly long for His return!
