I was thankful when Influenster gave me the opportunity to test out new frozen pizzas from California Pizza Kitchen. While we don’t generally consume processed foods, I decided to view the pizza as a treat for us to try. When my husband and I were dating, we would eat at the California Pizza Kitchen restaurant, and enjoying the frozen pizzas with him was a fun experience.
Uncured Pepperoni & Hot Honey
The first pizza we tried was the Uncured Pepperoni & Hot Honey with a croissant inspired crust. The pizza was delicious on its own and came with a small packet of Mike’s Hot Honey. I was hesitant to add the honey to my slices of pizza because I don’t usually enjoy foods that are spicy but the heat from the honey was just the right amount.
The combo of sweet and heat was a nice addition to the pizza and it tasted great. With the pizza having a croissant inspired crust, I expected it to be thicker, like a croissant, but it was flaky so I suppose that’s where the inspiration comes from. I appreciated that the pizza was made with uncured pepperoni because that is the kind I prefer as it’s generally less processed.
Bacon & Caramelized Onion
The second pizza we tried was the Bacon & Caramelized Onion. This pizza was my favorite of the two and it was delicious. The crust was the same thin flaky crust as the Uncured Pepperoni & Hot Honey and the idea of adding bacon to a pizza is simply brilliant.
Overall, I’m grateful that we had the opportunity to try these pizzas. They made for a quick and easy dinner at the end of a busy day. However, due to these pizzas containing multiple processed ingredients, I don’t see myself purchasing them regularly. If I were to purchase them, it would be to use them as a snack for a party rather than as a meal since they don’t offer much nutritional value.
