I’ve been participating in Influenster VoxBox campaigns for a while now and I’m excited to see them growing in their partnerships with companies that offer natural or healthier versions of traditional products. When I first began doing work for Influenster, many of the items they sent me weren’t ones I would actually use or prefer for my family to use, for example, men’s deodorant with a very strong scent that even my husband didn’t enjoy and a dog toy (we don’t have a dog). I was hoping the day would come when I would have the opportunity to review products that were more a natural fit for me and my family and I believe that day is here!
I was recently selected to receive a VoxBox full of vegan hair products from a new company called Better Natured and I couldn’t wait for my box to arrive. I have naturally thick, curly hair so vegan products are great for it as they tend to offer a gentler chemical composition when compared to traditional hair care products. I also have some postpartum health issues that affect my hair so I’m very careful about what goes on and in my body. While I really enjoyed each product I received, I don’t know yet that Better Natured products will be included in my regular beauty routine. The shampoo and conditioner each cost $20 for a 10.1 oz bottle. The hair masque is $22 for 6 fl oz and the leave in treatment is $22 for a 6.7 oz bottle. These products are probably in the same category as those that are available for purchase at salons. While I technically can afford to purchase these items on occasion, I don’t know that doing so would be the wisest stewardship of our finances. I don’t ever purchase shampoo or conditioner for just myself and I know there are natural brands on the market that are more affordable and available for purchase at my local grocery store (currently Better Natured products are only available for purchase online). I really did notice a difference with the hair masque so that is a product I will consider purchasing on occasion. Here is my review of each individual product that I received.
Moisturizing Shampoo
This shampoo has a light coconut fragrance and did the job when it came to leaving my hair feeling clean but not dried out. While I enjoyed using it and am thankful that it has better ingredients than many traditional shampoo brands, I don’t know that it’s unique enough to convert me to using it permanently.
Moisturizing Conditioner
Like the shampoo, the conditioner smells wonderful too. I only use conditioner on the ends of my hair and love that my hair smelled nice after using these products. I didn’t notice a big enough difference between this and the Shea Moisture conditioner that I already have to make it a regular product in my beauty routine.
Moisturizing Replenishing Masque
Out of all the Better Natured products I received, this one is certainly my favorite and one that I will probably purchase once or twice a year. The directions say to use it post shampoo and conditioner, however, I decided to try it on a day when I didn’t actually wash my hair. I slathered it all over my hair, left it in for the duration of my shower, and then rinsed it out. This product restored the shape of my curls and left them frizz free. There was a time in my life in which I would straighten my hair daily. As a result, my hair remains consistently curly on one side and consistently wavy/flat on the other. The moisturizing replenishing masque helped correct some of the years of heat damage and I’m interested to see how my hair improves with continued use.
Hydrating Leave-In Milk
The Hydrating Leave-In Milk is my second favorite product I received from Better Natured. I like using this to protect my hair from heat damage on the days that I do decide to straighten it. I love that this product has a light fragrance and doesn’t leave my hair looking greasy the way other leave in treatments can.
Overall, I really enjoy using the products from Better Natured. They seem to be a good fit for me and I love that they don’t seem to contain unnecessary harmful chemicals. I am interested to see what rating they receive in the future from the EWG Skin Deep Database which is what I use to inform my decisions about beauty purchases.
I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
