Be Loved is the debut title from YouTuber Emma Mae Jenkins. Emma is a young lady who has obtained a growing audience on Instagram and YouTube due to her faithfulness to proclaim the truth about who Jesus is. One aspect you’ll instantly notice about Emma upon viewing her social media profiles and upon reading her book is that she emanates joy. The joy she has because of Jesus was something that radiates through each page of her book. In Be Loved, Emma shares with readers about how her faith became her own and how she made the most of her high school by being a light for Christ.

Emma Mae shares about things that young students can relate to including the pressure to perform well in school and wanting to fit in. She encourages young people who have trusted in Christ to make much of His name by loving others and being a light. One way practical way that Emma Mae chose to care for the students at her high school was by ensuring that each one received a Christmas card. I found this act inspiring because it was a simple yet meaningful way to love others. Emma Mae did share that she believes God told her to do this. I’m typically cautious when I hear people claim that God told them to do something because it is clear in Scripture that God doesn’t speak to us outside of His word. However, I do see many times in Scripture where believers are called to love and care for others and since Emma Mae’s desire and actions align with God’s heart, I don’t take issue with her use of “God told me.”

Be Loved

One aspect of Be Loved that I really enjoyed is the layout of the book. Unlike traditional chapter books which contain text on paper, Be Loved contains photos and eye catching illustrations. Be Loved is a book and also a visual feast for the eyes which made it even more delightful to read. I feel that in designing the book this way, the publisher really captured Emma Mae’s young and joyful spirit. I also enjoyed how the chapters concluded with a prayer and many verses to dwell on. The prayers fondly reminded me of the prayer journals I kept in high school and college.

I received Be Loved compliments of New Growth Press in exchange for my honest review.
