Austin is Cool, and Also Totally Weird is a children’s book by artist and Austinite, Annie Mayfield. I first came across this lovely title via Instagram and since we started our family in Austin and still live locally, I had to grab a copy! The book contains modern illustrations of Austin and many of the places and people it’s famous for. My kids love looking at the pictures and especially enjoy the line about yoga with goats. It is fun for our family to open the book and see local restaurants and landmarks we’ve enjoyed visiting like the Austin Central Library and Lady Bird Lake.
The artwork is aesthetically pleasing and the design is overall very well done. I love the hand lettering in the book as well as the detailed illustrations. Although Austin is Cool is a children’s book, I’ve read it by myself a few times and enjoyed it. If Austin is where you call home or you’ve visited the city and loved it, you’ll want to purchase a copy of this book!
