My weekend started at our local Whole Foods at The Domain in North Austin. My husband dropped me off to have an hour to myself for writing!
He bought a four pack of Cuvee cold brews, our favorite cold brew coffee made right here in Austin, handed me one, and sent me into the store for some desperately needed alone time.
My husband is such a sweet blessing to me!
Saturday night, my husband arranged for some of our friends to watch Addie so we could go on a date!
One of our friends had posted on Instagram about how tasty the chicken is at the famous Austin restaurant, Lucy’s Fried Chicken, so we decided to give it at try.
We Googled Lucy’s to look at the menu and learned that they have a location overlooking Lake Travis so we decided to get out of the city and we weren’t disappointed!
I ordered the chicken tenders and Derek ordered the basket – we were both in fried chicken heaven!
As we headed to pick up Addie from our friend’s house, we stopped at our local Barnes and Noble to pick up Hand Lettering 101, which teaches basic hand lettering skills. The author of the book loves Jesus and lives in Austin, just like me, so when she posted on Instagram that her book was in stores, I had to get myself a copy.
Sunday was a churchy day. We had to be at church at 8 because Derek was doing ProPresenter for the service and I was serving in the nursery. After church we had lunch with some of our church family at Torchy’s on 51st. Our plan was to head to the Bullock Museum because admission was free but traffic was a beast due to the first UT game of the season so we decided to head home for naps. I was pretty disappointed and although I don’t care for football, I guess it was all worth it since UT won (#hookem).
We spent Sunday afternoon as a family just chilling out at home.
After having my camera for about 3 years, I have recently been learning how to use the different settings so naturally, Addie is my model. When the lighting is great in our apartment (which I now call Our Little Tree House due to the trees surrounding us outside), I’ll do whatever it takes to get Addie to smile.
By her look in the picture above, I don’t think she was as into the photo shoot as I was.
Monday was fun because Derek had the day off work so we were all together as a family!
We headed over to Thinkery, a local, hands-on, children’s museum.
Addie fell asleep on the way there and we woke her up to play once we were inside. She wasn’t too thrilled about that and refused to smile for any pictures but we could tell she was having fun!
One of my favorite features in the museum is the giant light brite – it reminds me of my mom’s vintage lite brite that we played with as kids. If we have a house someday, I would love to have a giant light brite wall in our play room!
Although Addie is only 5 months, there were still plenty of things for her age group to do at the museum including moving around these plastic puzzle pieces with lights in the background.
She LOVES books and enjoyed her daddy reading a story to her.
Derek thought Addie would have fun in this triangle made of mirrors and she did until she slammed her face into the bottom mirror trying to touch her own reflection.
She whimpered a bit but didn’t cry and we thought it was cute and funny.
Overall, we had a fun weekend as a little family. My husband works two jobs so whenever I get extra time with him, it is such a blessing.
He is so gentle and humble as he leads me and cares for our daughter and he is one of this life’s greatest treasures.
