Wooing Caddie McCaffrey is the latest book by Christian romance author Bethany Turner. I’m not usually one to choose a romance novel but I’m a sucker for a good book cover and this one drew me in. Wooing Cadie McCaffrey is not like typical romance novels which are trashy or even like the typical Christian romance novels which are trashy in disguise. This book was more of a romantic comedy type read and the author generally strayed away from inappropriate content which made it enjoyable.

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey details the romantic relationship between the main characters, Cadie McCaffrey and Will Whitaker. Cadie and Will meet while working for the fictional American Sports Network (ASN) and experience love at first sight. They seem to be growing in their relationship but as time goes on Cadie begins to believe that Will has lost interest in her and the relationship isn’t going anywhere. As you read the book, you will realize that there are things Will is going through that Cadie is unaware of that result in her thinking that way.

This was hilarious to me because it reminded me of a moment that occurred when my husband and I were dating and I thought he was no longer interested in me. (I went to bed crying and he had no idea that anything was wrong!). Cadie ends up breaking up with Will but their close friends and colleagues hatch various plans to help Will get her back.

Cadie’s best friend Darby suggests Will watch all the well known romantic comedies to obtain some ideas of what he can do to win Cadie back. Will misunderstands Darby’s suggestion and begins attempting to recreate romantic moments from the movies. These parts were fun to read and I enjoyed the nod to famous romantic comedies.

There is a point in the story where the main characters end up having premarital sex. I believe the author included this to demonstrate that even Christians fail and that there is forgiveness for sin however, I don’t think this scenario was necessary to paint that picture. The way in which the author wrote about this isn’t detailed or inappropriate. She does refer to the act as sin and the characters do discuss repentance and forgiveness which I am thankful for.

While it could be an accurate representation of what may be happening in Christian dating circles I felt that the story would have been just as good (or even better) without mentioning it. Premarital sex aside, Wooing Cadie McCaffrey is a clean and lighthearted read.

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey comes from a Christian publishing house, but it doesn’t have much theological depth. Since this is a work of fiction though, this wasn’t an issue for me. (Although I’m probably stating the obvious, I don’t recommend looking to works of fiction for obtaining Bible knowledge.) I finished Wooing Cadie McCaffrey in three days because I just had to know if Cadie and Will would make it. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Bethany Turner.

I received Wooing Cadie McCaffrey compliments of Revell Books in exchange for my honest review.
