I’d Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life is the second book by blogger and book aficionado, Anne Bogel. You may recognize Anne’s name if you’re familiar with her popular blog, Modern Mrs. Darcy or perhaps you’ve heard of her podcast, What Should I Read Next? I’ve loosely followed Anne’s blog over the years and have visited for a variety of reasons but I’ve most recently gained interest as she’s been focusing primarily on books.

I'd Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life

When I discovered via Instagram that Anne was releasing a book titled I’d Rather Be Reading, it was love at first sight. Not only is the cover of the book beautiful but the content is highly entertaining especially if you consider yourself to be of the bookish nature. Anne’s book is a memoir of sorts detailing how she came to love books and the impact reading has had on her life. As an avid reader myself, I could relate to most of the examples included in the book and was thrilled to learn that my passion for all things book related is shared by many.

My favorite chapter is Bookworm Problems because I could identify with almost all of the problems Anne mentioned. This chapter reminded of the famous C.S. Lewis quote, “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What? You too! I thought I was the only one.'” Since I was little, reading has been a huge passion of mine. I remember growing frustrated when my mom would take my sisters and I to our local library and I was limited to checking out 15 books. To work my way around the system, I would use my mom’s card to borrow a few extras. When it comes to reading, I just can’t get enough and I’m thankful for the way Anne’s book brought to my mind the sweet memories I’ve gained in my own journey with reading. If you enjoy reading in any capacity, I’d Rather Be Reading is for you.

I received I’d Rather Be Reading compliments of Baker Books in exchange for my honest review.
