The second city I’d visit on a trip to Georgia would be Marietta. This city is rich with history and offers much for tourists to see and do.
1. Lodging
Since I don’t have the opportunity to travel often, I want to make sure my Marietta hotel truly has a relaxing feel. When I saw the views that the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Downtown has to offer, I knew it was the one for me.
2. Coffee
Cool Beans Coffee Roasters doesn’t just serve coffee. This spot also roasts the beans in-house, which gives them a richer flavor.
3. Breakfast
I love a hearty breakfast, and the Southern options at Red Eyed Mule sound mouthwatering. This restaurant even has a sandwich that was featured on Food Network!
4. Morning Hike
The stunning views from the Cochran Shoals Trail look straight out of a Nicholas Sparks movie. I love spending time outdoors and taking pictures, so a trip down this trail with my camera in tow would be the perfect way to spend the morning.
5. Lunch

With a menu that features Southern comfort food, standard American fare, and breakfast around the clock, the vintage Marietta Diner is a sensible choice that offers something for everyone. It was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. This is a huge plus for me because dined at restaurants that the show highlighted during a trip to Portland, and they did not disappoint.
6. Afternoon Tour
I’m sad to report that I first viewed “Gone With the Wind” just a few years ago. For the longest time, I considered watching this classic film, and I’m so glad I finally gave it a chance. Although the story is fiction, I appreciate that the historical elements are true. I’m interested in viewing the memorabilia on display at the Gone With the Wind Museum.
7. Dinner
My husband is a quarter Cuban, so I would love to eat dinner at the Cuban Diner and learn about the types of food that are part of his heritage.
8. Just for Fun
Just browsing through the Queen of Hearts Antiques and Interiors’ listings on Craigslist has me excited. It’s typically challenging to find antique stores that have fun items at affordable prices, but this store offers both. I can’t wait to visit.
9. Shopping
The bibliophile in me would definitely dedicate an hour or two to browse at Book Nook Marietta, a cozy little independent bookstore.
10. History Lesson
The William Root House Museum and Garden is in the oldest house in downtown Marietta. It offers tourists the opportunity to learn what life was like in the antebellum South, which sounds ideal for a history lesson.
What comes to mind when I think of Marietta is the sheer variety of attractions available. You truly can find a wide range of things to do and sights to see in this small city. I love how this city has incorporated modern amenities while remaining true to its historical roots.
