Spring has finally arrived here in the South, and it has me dreaming up different possibilities for our annual family vacation. Follow along with me over the next four posts as I share with you my top 10 must-see sites in select Southern cities.
A good rule of thumb when traveling is to avoid chain restaurants that are readily available almost anywhere. Since I view travel as an adventure, this is a sure way to guarantee new experiences.
Top 10 Must-See Sites
1. Embassy Suites By Hilton Atlanta NE Gwinnett Sugarloaf: This is just one of many gorgeous hotels in Duluth. The hotel is in the business district and near popular attractions. Refrigerators and microwaves will help you feel at home.
2. Mac Lab Bakery & Cafe: My day in Duluth would start with a nice cup of coffee. I’m a sucker for beautiful interiors, so this lovely shop was an inevitable stop. Also worth noting is that Mac Lab is famous for its fun Unicorn Macarons, which have been featured on FN Dish, the blog of Food Network.
3. Duluth Diner: This would be my top pick for breakfast. The menu contains so many options, and with breakfast offered all day, I might be tempted to return for dinner.
4. The Cottage On Main: This cute restaurant is in the Payne-Corley House, a farmhouse that was built in 1873. That was the same year the city received the name Duluth.
5. Maple Street Biscuit Company: This small chain is present in only four states, so I would definitely stop in for an unconventional dinner of a warm, flaky biscuit and a Southern side dish (probably mac and cheese).
6. McDaniel Farm Park: The views around the trails in this park are stunning, and the barn-themed playground is absolutely adorable. I love that this is an option the whole family can enjoy.
7. Peace, Love and Decorating: The inventory in this home decor shop achieves the perfect balance of items that are both unique and also curated from well-known brands. I love that the shop also has an online storefront so I can order items and ship them directly to my home rather than trying to find extra suitcase space for storage.
8. Hudgens Center for Art & Learning: One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to visit art galleries. I love that this one happens to be a nonprofit and contains a Kids Zone for children to make and take their own art.
9. Southeastern Railway Museum: My daughter is really into trains right now so I know this museum is sure to be a hit! Situated on a 35-acre site, the museum is owned by the Atlanta Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.
10. Downtown Duluth: Photos of the town square remind me of scenes from Gilmore Girls. I would love to take a stroll through the little shops along the square and stop by the Duluth History Museum.
Duluth is a small suburb of Atlanta, but don’t let its size deter you from visiting. This tiny town is rich with history and is sure to be a delightful stop on your next trip to Georgia.
